Aimtec, a technology and consulting company that specialises in the digitalisation of manufacturing and logistics, came home from Germany’s Hannover Messe fairgrounds bearing First Prize in the Factory Innovation Award competition’s “Resilient Factory” category, which it received for the Aimtec DCIx digitalisation platform. The jury makes these awards to companies that help their customers to manage the impacts of supply chain disruptions – so that they can both respond to and prevent these fluctuations.

The Factory Innovation Award is organised by Berlin’s GITO publishing house, along with the Centre for Industry 4.0 at the University of Potsdam and Factory Innovation, the leading periodical on smart factories.

Aimtec’s solution persuaded the jury with its technology solution and its focus on present and future customer needs

Aimtec, a company with over 250 employees, has been helping since 1996 to optimise and standardise logistics and manufacturing processes, primarily in the automotive industry. It has successfully implemented over 5,000 digitalisation projects focused on areas such as the Smart Factory, intralogistics and manufacturing automation, the integration of SAP and EDI systems, both within Europe and beyond in America and Asia.

Aimtec won the jury’s favour with the technical merits of its DCIx platform, such as ease of integration, scalability and a cloud-first solution. They also appreciated its approach towards customers, which assists them with process automation, responds to their current needs and eases their growth amid today’s turbulent world. Aimtec knows how to connect and integrate the customer’s choice of technology into a functional whole. The result is a fully managed and controlled process – from the ERP system all the way down to individual machines.

Swift deployment and highly secure operation even with multiple sites

“Our first-place victory in the Factory Innovation Award, decided by an independent jury of experts, confirms that we are helping fundamentally to make manufacturers’ plants truly more secure,” says Aimtec’s Chief Growth Officer Jan Stočes. “We’re overjoyed by this award. For us, it’s proof that our core competencies, that is, digitalisation, integration, automation and consulting focused on customer needs, are precisely what helps companies to better face the challenges that accompany, for example, supply chain disruptions, personnel shortages, strict conditions and short deadlines, or the rising complexity of deliveries.”

And what was the jury’s assessment? Aimtec’s software is easy to learn, while its cloud-first approach guarantees that the solution will be swiftly deployable and that no added customer-side infrastructure administration will be needed. And yet it boasts a high degree of security. The jury also liked this software’s containerisation. It likewise appreciates its integration into SAP and the use of open standards.

Our solution has never been primarily focused on just a software delivery – it’s also about understanding the client and the challenges they face. We build long-term relationships with our customers. That’s the only way we can create a shared vision of the digital transformation and strive towards its fulfilment,” adds Stočes.

About Aimtec DCIx

The Aimtec DCIx digitalisation platform is a smart layer linking your ERP with manufacturing machines and processes. It interconnects your logistics, production, quality, shipping, automation technologies, machines and people. This horizontal and vertical integration gives users an instant overview of their whole firm’s operations. The Aimtec DCIx platform is founded on these principles:

  • Cloud First/SaaS: These solutions operate primarily in a cloud environment.
  • Configurability: DCIx enables a maximum of configurability to meet the customer’s needs. Companies can configure this application on their own.
  • Integration into other systems down the chain: The entire system is designed so that applications can be easily integrated into other software solutions using a standard interface.
  • Speed, stability and scalability: This application has been developed in accordance with the principles of service-oriented architecture. Aimtec uses a modular core in its applications, and it develops specific solutions outside of this core wherever possible. The separation of individual services lets Aimtec develop solutions swiftly and makes the entire platform more stable and scalable.
  • An open approach: For easier interoperability among individual systems and technologies, Aimtec leverages open formats such as OpenAPI, XML, JSON, REST, MQTT, TCP/IP, OAuth2 and SAML. Its main focus is the automotive industry and its accompanying EDI standards, which are fundamental for B2B communication with OEMs.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO): These applications incorporate a Single Sign-On system (using OAuth2 or SAML). This system is integrated within a single Identity Provider, which enables access via customer accounts.
  • Online documentation: Besides the standard documentation, all of the applications provide users with access to project documentation, including an overview. It amounts to detailed instructions for deploying and using the application, including practical instructions for the whole process. This documentation is continuously updated in the form of a wiki.
  • Automated monitoring: To ensure a high service level for the application, Aimtec uses automatic monitoring (Zabbix or the Prometheus platforms) that watches over application status nonstop.
  • Testing: To facilitate rapid development and smooth deployment of the DCIx platform, Aimtec performs fully automated testing. After every modification, its products are verified at all levels using unit tests (jUnit and T-SQL).
